The Village: Milhars

THE VILLAGE: MILHARS

Milhars is 100km from the city of Toulouse. To get here, you must fly into Toulouse-Blagnac airport and then drive just over an hour into the country-side. The roads in France are great, and the drive is beautiful.

Located in a valley near the Aveyron river, Milhars has a small grocery store, bistro and post office  to serve its nearly 250 full-time inhabitants.

Places Nearby

The surrounding area offers so much to explore within a 1-hour driving radius. From Albi’s UNESCO World Heritage designated Sainte-Cecile cathedral, to the wine regions of Gaillac and Cahors, to the network of walking trails meandering through a countryside dotted with castles and iconic pigeonniers, the region is replete with authentic experiences and hidden gems to discover.

The map below shows a few highlights and places of interest that we’ve discovered but by no means should it be considered exhaustive. As you can see, we’ve only just scratched the surface of this region! We’ll continue to update this map as we explore and hear back from guests on their “must-see” locales.

Markets

For us, a lot of the joy of being in rural France is found at the morning markets. Near Milhars, the best market - by far - is located at the historic town of St. Antonin-de-Noble-Val on Sunday mornings from 7am - 1pm.

Every market varies in size and vendors, but you can expect to find fresh and cured meats, seasonal produce, homemade preserves, bread and pastries, and fish/seafood depending on the time of year. These travelling markets are generally only active during the first half of the day so be sure to get there early to avoid disappointment!

Some nearby markets include:

  • Monday - Caussade

  • Tuesday - Castelnau de Montmiral / Albi

  • Wednesday - Laguepie

  • Thursday - Vaour / Castres

  • Friday - Montricoux / Carmaux

  • Saturday - Varen / Cordes-sur-Ciel

  • Sunday - Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val

About us

ABOUT US

We are Ryan and Delia, two Canadians who've been charmed by village life in the Southwest of France.

In 2013, we spent part of our honeymoon in the 2-bedroom house that we now own. We were instantly captivated by Milhars’ flowered medieval walls and terraces along with its postcard-worthy views.

Our place is the perfect pied-à-terre from which to explore this beautiful part of the country. Relax; soak in the routine of village life, explore nearby nature trails and historic sites and go gourmand as you enjoy the bounty of the region’s culinary delights.

We love to visit our vacation home as often as possible but when we aren’t able to travel, we make it available for others to rent in our absence.

We hope you love this place as much as we do!
